Abstract: In this paper, the cone penetration test (CPT) was carried out at two typical sites far away from each other in Hefei. The trend removal methods were used for the CPT data of Hefei old clay layer, and then the stationarity and ergodicity tests were carried out on the processed data to verify the applicability of the random field model in the region. On this basis, the effect of sampling spacing and sampling range on the scale of fluctuation of soil properties of Hefei old clay was discussed, and the spatial recurrence average method was used to calculate the vertical scale of fluctuation of soil properties of Hefei old clay layer. The results show that with the increase of sampling spacing, the calculation results of the scale of fluctuation of soil properties increase, and the standard deviation of the calculation results also tends to increase; with the increase of sampling range, the calculation results of the scale of fluctuation of soil properties increase first and then gradually smooth; based on the calculation results of the two sites, the mean range of scale of fluctuation of soil properties of old clay in Hefei area is 0.57-0.68 m. The research results can provide a reference for geotechnical engineering design and stability evaluation in Hefei area.
